Spring Break!

Well, we have had some crazy weather. I don't think Idaho wants to let go of winter! Spring? Is it supposed to be Spring? I have a few early flowers that think it is time. The birds at my house are twitterpated. And, we have spring fever BBBAAADDD!

So, it was time to get out of Idaho because the weather is not cooperating. We pulled out the motorcycles, and packed everything but the kitchen sink. We pulled the kids out of school for a week and headed for Mesquite, Nevada. It was beautiful! We were not sure we had made the right choice. It snowed from the time we left home until 30 miles from Mesquite. We had blizzards and six inches of slush on the freeway. Where are those snow plows when you need them? The trailer was covered with icicles. It looked like someone had snowblown our trailer with slush. You couldn't even tell where the motorcycles were. Then, we hit that mile marker, the sun came up, the land was covered with green. The temperature rose about 40 degrees, seriously. aaaahhhh!

The motorcycle trailer melted almost entirely in that last 30 miles, and our faces lit up. Thanks to Grandma M. we were able to stay together in condos with our extended Grover, Aeschbacher, Purser clan. It was a lot of fun! We shared meals, rode together, and played together. The kids saw a whole bunch of Disney channel, and got to have a dip in the freezing cold water of the pool. I juggled school and finding an internet connection in the late evening hours. We saw some beautiful country. The first day, though, Greg had all of us on motorbikes (I, Tawnya am riding a motorbike now) riding for miles in the sand. We were beat by the end of the day; I had my first crash (nothing serious); we were hot and suntanned; we had had enough riding in the sand. After we got that out of our system, we could ride anything. I am so proud of my kids! They get through a lot of what I would consider knarly stuff. We saw a lot of beautiful country! -We all made it home in one piece this year! No major injuries! Yea!

Lizard
As for wildlife, we saw lizards, and made friends with a turtle. Jacob was riding down the road in front of me. He stopped and did a u-turn. In the middle of the road was what looked to me to be a grey log or rock. To Jacob, it was a turtle. Sure enough, Jacob picked him up. The poor guy looked like he had been eating on the run, and had grass stains all over his mouth. Jacob kindly moved him off the road, sending him away from danger. What a kid! He is always full of surprises. He just sees the world so differently. Turtle

We found some old mines, road into the mountains high enough to hit snow, showed Greg the canyon we rode to last year while he was in the hospital, found a primitive rock dam, saw a sinkhole, and found some indian petroglyphs. In addition, we bowled a few games, hit the arcade, played some card games, enjoyed the buffets, visited with Burner family, and discovered that the slot machine with real coins is a thing of the past. Bummer!

We returned to Idaho where it was still having snow and cold weather. We wished we could have stayed south. We have had a few jacket-free warm days since then, though. I was able to get the yard cleaned up with the help of my kids; they are good workers. We also headed to Twin Falls to help with the Spring Clean-up and Dad's projects.

I continue to substitute teach and chase after our kids. I just started a new class, this one is about art through the ages. Greg has pulled his car out of the garage, and is pulling the motor out of it to make it "like new" again. It is a constant project that he has needed for some time. Rebekah is working on an Idaho History project. She is doing it on Indians and Idaho. She will be making a model of a real tepee about 3' tall. She is sporting a new haircut, and looks so pretty. Rachel just got one of the highest scores on her IRI test yesterday. She has made a new girlfriend, and loves to get together with her. Jacob is sporting a new spike hairdo. He was chosen to read a story at a school event at Barnes & Noble. (Only a few 1st and 2nd graders were chosen.) He was nervous, but did a great job! All are doing excellent in school. We couldn't be prouder of them.

Life marches on........
